Bunting

I love bunting, all types, styles, colours. It's a fantastic way of jazzing up a tired room or even draped across a boring headboard. I have spent my day making the bunting you see in the pics below, which went up for sale in our shop earlier this evening.
To be honest with you, its quite easy to make your own, provided you know what your doing.
using the lace as the way of tying each flag together is the best way if your sewing skills aren't fantastic.

1. Cut your flags from which ever fabric you fancy, I use 8 inches long, 8 inches tall. I find it easiest to cut a template out of card and use that to cut all of your flags out

2. about 1cm in from the edge of each flag, sew a straight stitch, following all around the edge, which if you choose to fray the edges of your fabric, will stop it going so far that you end up with no flag left!! ( if you choose not to fray then you don't have to worry about doing this, if you don't want to. )

3. Fray the edges of your flags. place your flag on the table and scratch the edge with your nail, this will pull the threads away from one another.

4. Now attach to your chosen lace. Using a lace with a flat edge at the top, will help with ease of sewing. You could pin it all and use a sewing machine, provided you have a good eye, as there's not much room for error. Or you could hand stitch each flag on, it wont be the strongest option but if your only using your bunting for an indoor decoration than this shouldn't matter, just use a simple running stitch will do.

5. Hang with pride and appreciate your new bunting, created by your own hand!
